Non-Immigrant Visa
All applicants must appear in person
for an interview. The Embassy of the United States in Amman,
Jordan schedules appointments for non-immigrant visa interviews daily,
Sunday through Thursday, between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. except on designated Jordanian and American holidays.
All NIV applicants must bring to the interview
appointment the following documents:
-
An international passport in which the applicant’s name (including
children) is written in Latin characters. The passport must be valid for
at least six months after the intended date of travel;
- A 5cm X 5cm recent, high
quality, clear, color photograph for each applicant showing full face
forward against a white background (no photographs with dark glasses or
head-coverings other than religious wear are acceptable).
Photos should be printed without borders. Photos should be
stapled or glued to Form DS-156, Nonimmigrant Visa Application. If the
photograph is stapled, the staples should be placed as far away as
possible from the applicant's face. Photos taken in front of busy,
patterned, or dark backgrounds will not be accepted.
-
Completed and signed Form
DS-156.
An application form completely and accurately filled out in English (each
applicant fourteen years of age and older must sign his/her application
form);
-
A non-refundable application fee of 71 JDs ($100) must be paid in advance
at a participating branch of the Cairo-Amman Bank.
Applicants must pay their fee at least one day before they apply for their
visa at the embassy.
- Applicants for student visas
must have a valid I-20 from an American institution, proof of financial
ability, and records of previous academic performance.
The consular
officer will only consider documents brought alone to the interview. Documents
faxes or mailed to the Embassy in advance of the application will not be
considered.
PLEASE
NOTE: Non-immigrant visas are issued only to applicants who
can establish - without a doubt - that they intend to return to their home
country after a temporary stay in the United States. This can be done by
showing substantial ties (social, professional, financial, etc.) to a
country other than the United States. Under United States law the
responsibility for demonstrating valid reasons for travel and substantial
ties to a foreign country rests with the applicant. The burden of proof
in all cases is upon the applicant to overcome the presumption that he or
she is an intending immigrant.
Immigrant Visa
All applicants must schedule an appointment for an interview. Both
the American petitioner and the beneficiary must personally attend an
interview. The wait for an appointment may be a few months.
Attorney Representation
Attorneys are not permitted to be physically present at the
nonimmigrant or IV interviews window with clients. Friends and family members not applying for a
visa will not be admitted to the waiting room.
