B-2 Visa

A B2 visitor is defined by the Immigration and Nationality Act as "an alien (other than one coming for the purpose of study or performing skilled or unskilled labor as a representative of foreign press, radio, film, or other foreign information media coming to engage in such vocations) having a residence in a foreign country, which he has no intention of abandoning and who is visiting the United States temporarily for business...."

• Individuals traveling to the U.S. for tourism purposes
• Individuals coming to the U.S. to make social visits to relatives or friends
• Individuals coming to the U.S. for medical or health purposes
• Participants in conventions, conferences, or convocations of fraternal, social, or service organizations
• Amateur entertainers and athletes who are performing in a social or charitable context, or visiting to compete in a talent show, contest, or athletic event and will receive no compensation
• Prospective students or students engaging in brief or incidental study
• Individuals engaged to a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident visiting on a temporary basis the United States to meet his or her fiancé(e)'s family, to make arrangements for the wedding, or to renew a relationship with the prospective spouse
• Spouses and children of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents visiting on a temporary basis
• Lawful permanent residents seeking entry for an emergency temporary visit if time does not permit the application for proper entry documents
• Parents of minor students
